An Egyptian court sentenced a woman to death by hanging on Saturday for killing her husband and six children by poisoning their food, after the Grand Mufti approved the verdict. The criminal court in Minya, presided over by Counselor Alaa Abbas, held its first session in the presence of the defendant, who was holding her young child. The court heard defense requests, which included the testimony of a forensic doctor and several other motions. The victims' mother, the defendant's co-wife, also attended the session and demanded retribution against the convicted woman.
